FOUNDERS LANCE DAVIS AND MARY CHALON

PARSON'S NOSE PRODUCTIONS is a not-for-profit theatre organization devoted to inspiring and developing new theater audiences, primarily by producing fun, accessible, one hour, professional adaptations of classic works for the whole family.

Parson's Nose Productions was founded in April, 2000 by Artistic Director Lance Davis and Associate Director Mary Chalon, theatre professionals for over 30 years. The company grew out of a need to educate young audiences in the classic theater of our world cultures.

While teaching in several local colleges, Lance realized that the students weren't familiar with our most time-honored stories - even fairy tales. The language and worlds of Shakespeare and Moliere were intimidating. He decided that kids and their parents should be able to see a one hour show that is plot-driven, fun, and accessible, paving the way for enjoying the full text when the kids are older.

Parson's Nose has been an integral component of the Geffen Playhouse's "Saturday Scene" since 2002. We’ve also been presented by the Pasadena Playhouse, the Fremont Centre theater, and we now produce our own series “Under the Tent” in South Pasadena.

Our repertoire now includes Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night’s Dream, King Cymbeline and Comedy of Errors by Shakespeare, The Mi$er, The Mischief of Scapin, The Imaginary Invalid, and School for Wives by Moliere, and works by Grimm, Andersen, Belasco, Goldoni, and Boucicault.

Parson's Nose also has an educational outreach component, touring full productions to LAUSD as part of the Geffen Playhouse's outreach program. This season we're also expanding our own touring program, bringing all three of our shows to the Pasadena Unified School District and Westridge and Gooden Schools.

PNP is guided by a board of directors comprised of professionals in the entertainment and business worlds who share our love of theatre.

WHY THE CLASSICS?

While teaching in several local colleges, I realized that the students weren't familiar with our most time-honored stories - even fairy tales. The language and worlds of Shakespeare and Moliere were intimidating. I decided that kids and their parents should be able to see a one hour show that is plot-driven, fun, and accessible, paving the way for enjoying the full text when the kids are older.

Family Theater productions now include A Family Twelfth Night, Family Mi$er, The Family Scapin, Family Midsummer Night's Dream, King Cymbeline, Streets of Los Angeles, School for Wives, Servant of Two Masters, and Classic Fairy Talesas well as Lance Davis's adaptations of Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle, Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors and Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid.

Parson's Nose also has an educational outreach component, touring to LAUSD and through workshops at Pasadena area private schools. This season we're continuing our very own touring program, bringing all three of this season's shows to the Pasadena Unified School district.
