WHY THE CLASSICS? |
|||||
While teaching in several local colleges, I realized that the students weren't familiar with our most time-honored stories - even fairy tales. The language and worlds of Shakespeare and Moliere were intimidating. I decided that kids and their parents should be able to see a one hour show that is plot-driven, fun, and accessible, paving the way for enjoying the full text when the kids are older. Family Theater productions now include A Family Twelfth Night, Family Mi$er, The Family Scapin, Family Midsummer Night's Dream, King Cymbeline, Streets of Los Angeles, School for Wives, Servant of Two Masters, and Classic Fairy Talesas well as Lance Davis's adaptations of Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle, Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors and Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid. Parson's Nose also has an educational outreach component, touring to LAUSD and through workshops at Pasadena area private schools. This season we're continuing our very own touring program, bringing all three of this season's shows to the Pasadena Unified School district. - Lance Davis |
